The Centre has added 11 international ports, including the Attari land border in Punjab, to the list of entry points for foreigners holding Indian e-visas.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said the latest addition includes two airports and nine land ports, taking the total number of international entry points available to e-visa holders to 88.
The list now includes 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports.
The new airports are Bhopal and Tirupati. The newly added land ports are Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh, Attari (Road) and another listed border point.
The e-visa facility is available to foreigners across 17 categories, including tourist, medical, student, business, transit, cruise, mountaineering and group travel. The government said around 95% of e-visa applications are processed within 72 hours.
The facility is not available to Pakistani passport holders or people of Pakistani origin. The Indian visa application portal directs them to apply for a regular visa through an Indian mission.
The expanded list of airports includes major international gateways such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad.
India also permits e-visa entry through 38 seaports, including Chennai, Cochin, Mumbai, Kolkata, Mundra, New Mangalore, Vizhinjam and Visakhapatnam.
India introduced the e-visa facility in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries. It has since expanded to cover citizens of 172 countries.
The Centre said the latest expansion is expected to improve the accessibility and utility of India's electronic visa system.
