Belgavi: Senior Congress leader and Kagawada MLA Raju Kage launched a scathing attack on his own party’s government in Karnataka on Monday, expressing frustration over stalled development works in his constituency and warning he may soon resign from the party.

“I might resign from the party,” he stated, triggering fresh political ripples.

The Congress-led government, already under scrutiny following MLA B.R. Patil’s explosive bribery allegations tied to housing allotments, now faces deeper embarrassment in the wake of Kage’s remarks.

Addressing reporters in Ainapura village of Kagawada taluk in Belagavi district, Kage voiced his discontent: “Special grants have been released for my constituency. Even after the allocation of Rs 25 crore for development works two years ago, not a single work order has been issued.”

He went on to allege administrative paralysis: “No officer under this government is functioning. Governance has collapsed under the Congress administration.”

“What does it mean if work orders are not issued even after the release of funds? It wouldn’t be surprising if I tender my resignation in the next two days after meeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,” he added.

Drawing comparisons to fellow Congress legislator B.R. Patil, Kage said, “My situation is worse than that of senior Congress MLA B.R. Patil, who raised his voice against the housing project scam. I am now facing the possibility of resigning from my MLA post.”

“I am deeply disheartened that work orders have not been issued to execute development projects. What MLA B.R. Patil said is not false, it is the truth,” he said.

Patil had earlier accused officials of demanding bribes in housing scheme allotments and sidelining him from the process.

The dissent sparked strong reactions from opposition BJP leaders. Former Chief Minister and MP Jagadish Shettar said the Congress government’s corruption had reached alarming levels: “The statements made by Congress MLAs Raju Kage and B.R. Patil are proof of this.”

Shettar added, “The Congress government is deceiving the people. They announce funds and schemes, but no work orders are issued. Raju Kage was earlier with the BJP and knows how the previous BJP governments functioned.”

Echoing the criticism, BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai said in Haveri, “There is zero development. Corruption is rampant in official transfers, from local to state levels. The morale of honest officers has completely collapsed.”

He also questioned the government’s responsiveness, saying, “Even as ruling party MLAs are exposing scams, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remains indifferent… There is no coordination between ministers and MLAs. It is clear that their concerns are being ignored.”

Bommai further alleged that victims of recent floods were still waiting for compensation and warned of public unrest. “Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already directed the state BJP to prepare for an agitation at an appropriate time,” he said.

Citing reports from contractors, Bommai accused the Congress government of demanding exorbitant commissions of up to 60 per cent and referenced ongoing scandals, including a smart meter procurement controversy: “Yet, this shameless government remains unaffected,” he said.
