I-Day threat against PM Modi: NIA files case against Khalistani terrorist Pannun

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a case against US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun over his alleged threat against Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month.

Pannun is reported to have announced, calling upon ‘Sikh soldiers’, a reward of ₹11 crore to stop PM Modi from hoisting the national flag on Independence Day, NDTV reported.

Pannun faces the case for the issuing a threat in a video alongside ‘spreading disaffection among Sikhs against India,’ according to PTI.

The Khalistani terrorist made the announcement during the 'Meet the Press' event at the Lahore Press Club in Pakistan on August 10, which he addressed from the US via video link.

The NIA in FIR reportedly said that Pannun had unveiled a map for new Khalistan at the event alongside vowing to include Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh in it.

‘By doing so, he has indulged in activities for disrupting sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of India and spreading disaffection among Sikhs against India,’ the FIR reportedly said.

His 'Sikhs For Justice' claimed it had formed 'martyr's group' to fight against India, according to the FIR.

Following a directive from the Union Home Ministry, the premier anti-terror agency filed case under BNS Section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The ministry's directive to the NIA said that Pannun's address at the Lahore event ‘primarily focussed on the rejection of India's sovereignty over Punjab and the promotion of Khalistan’.
