Houses, IT Park submerged following cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Dehradun

Dehradun: A cloudburst that struck Uttarakhand's Dehradun on Monday night caused severe waterlogging in Sahastradhara and the IT Park area submerging houses in Tapovan.

People living near the Karligaad rivulet have been shifted following massive flooding, amid reports of widespread chaos in the area, NDTV reported.

As the stream got swollen in the intense rain, a key bridge in the area gave way alongside causing widespread damage to properties.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami wrote on X that some shops in Sahastradhara were damaged in the heavy rain.

Dhami said that alongside being touch with the local administration, he was personally monitoring the situation.

Talking over phone to Dhami, PM Modi assured the Centre’s assistance saying that the Union government ‘stands firmly with Uttarakhand in this hour of disaster’.

Home Minister Amit Shah also had a conversation with Dhami over phone in which he reportedly assured Home Ministry’s assistance to the state in carrying out relief and rescue efforts.

Dhami later said that "with the guidance and cooperation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, relief work will be conducted more rapidly in the state."

Officials including District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumkum Joshi reached the site to monitor the relief operations.

Officials from the National Disaster Response Force(NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Central Public Works Department (PWD) are carrying out relief and rescue operations.

Two people went missing following a previous cloudburst in August in Mopata village in the state’s Chamoli district.

PM Modi visited Dehradun on September 11 to assess the flood situation alongside chairing an official meeting.

Following which, the Centre announced Rs 1,200 crore for the affected areas.
