Bhopal: Police in Madhya Pradesh have arrested two pastors, Uttam Barela and Vikas Barela, from Mohanpur Khurd village in Guna district, following allegations of attempting religious conversion.
According to police, the action was taken after a complaint by a member of the right-wing Hindutva extremist group Bajrang Dal. A preliminary inquiry was conducted before the arrests, it is learned.
The complaint alleges that the pastors organised a gathering where they claimed serious illnesses, including cancer, could be cured through faith in Christianity. They are also accused of offering financial assistance for treatment and other needs to influence tribal communities to convert.
The FIR further states that those who refused to convert were allegedly threatened with continued suffering.
Police said further investigation into the case is ongoing.
