Hindutva groups force households to remove Bible verse from their wall

Kollam: Hindu organisation activists led by a BJP ward councillor have come forward to protest against the word ‘idol worshippers’ written on the wall of a Pentecostal family’s house in Sathyanmukku, Pitavoor, Pathanapuram. The photo of the house’s wall was also shared by Hindu Aikya Vedi leader Sasikala, who is known for her anti-minority discourses, on social media. Following this, the group led by ward councillor Vijayakumar demanded that the writing on the wall be removed. However, the family took the stand that this is a Bible verse and cannot be erased.

Following this, the police intervened in the incident after the protesters threatened to demolish the wall. After the police discussed with the family, the family told the police that they would not erase it and that the complainants could erase it if they wanted. With this, the police discussed with the church office bearers and reached a compromise. Subsequently, the word idol worshippers was removed using spray paint in the presence of the police. The protest is now against the text that had been written on the wall for about five years.
