Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed officials, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local bodies to remain vigilant and prioritize rescue and relief efforts amid heavy rains in Mumbai.
The city has experienced flooding on several roads, with the weather office forecasting continued heavy rain today.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), intermittent spells of heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers are expected to persist across many parts of Mumbai and its suburban areas for the next 18-24 hours. The IMD has also issued a warning for heavy rain in various districts of the Konkan region, including Mumbai.
Chief Minister Shinde emphasized the importance of all agencies receiving timely updates from the IMD and the State Disaster Management Cell. He stressed the need for a strategic plan to assist citizens during the adverse weather conditions.
To mitigate the risk of flooding, Shinde instructed that the water levels in dams and ponds be closely monitored, and a controlled discharge system be implemented. Additionally, he advised that traffic in flood-affected areas be halted and rerouted to alternative paths to ensure public safety.
