New Delhi: Social media giant Facebook has come out with an explanation, as a controversy heated up after a report in the Wall Street Journal revealed that Facebook stopped short of taking any action even when complaints surfaced about hate campaigns by BJP leaders. .
"We have banned contents that instigate hatred and violence. This policy is globally implemented without considering the politics," the Facebook spokesperson said.
"We are aware that many things are yet to be done. There is progress in implementing the company's policy. Routine scrutiny is done to ensure accuracy and transparency," news agency ANI quoted the spokesperson saying.
The Wall Street Journal had reported that Facebook authorities directed their employees to let go of hate campaigns of BJP leaders and their workers considering the commercial interests of the firm in India. The report cited the case of non-action against BJP leader T. Rajasingh of Telangana. The report lit up a hot controversy in the country.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted that BJP and RSS are controlling Facebook and Whatsapp in India. He also accused the BJP leaders of campaigning with vitriols through the digital platforms.
