New Delhi: The riots in Nuh district of Haryana has opened up fissures in the ties between ruling BJP and its partner the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in the state.
The violence began on Monday in Muslim-dominated areas after Vishwa Hindu Parishad took out Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra.
Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, the leader of the JJP criticised the handling of the situation, pointing fingers at the administration.
‘The yatra organisers did not give complete information about the procession to the district administration, which resulted in the violence. Strict action will follow against those responsible for the incident,’ Chautala was quoted as saying.
Chautala’s words suggest the JJP leadership has differing view on the incident, which appears to be bordering on blaming the organisers of the rally.
The BJP and JJP are not in good terms, reportedly, for long, which might prove difficult for them to continue ties in the upcoming general polls.
The JJP expressed its differences on Central government’s stand on farmers strike and wrestlers’ protest.
The BJP turned to regional party JJP following the 2019 Assembly elections when it fell short of a majority by six MLAs.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday alleged ‘conspiracy’ in Monday’s violence, adding that some people plotted to attack those participating in the yatra and the police.
‘This is an unfortunate incident. A yatra was being organised, during which some people conspired an attack on those taking part in the procession and the police. Violence was reported at several places. There seems to be a big conspiracy behind this,’ Khattar reportedly said.
The Chief Minister vowed strict action against the rioters even as the incidents claimed six lives.
Meanwhile, authorities claimed that schools, colleges, and workplaces in Nuh have returned to normal, adding mobile and internet services have been restored.
