Haryana cabinet led by CM Khattar resigns

New Delhi: Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, submitted his resignation to the governor on Tuesday. His cabinet colleagues joined him in the Raj Bhavan.

Leaders of the Central BJP, such as former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union Minister Arjun Munda, are in the state to supervise the changes. Sources told PTI that the BJP legislature party might get together on Tuesday, the New Indian Express reported.

The resignation of Khattar and his whole cabinet came as there were rumours of a rift among the ruling BJP-JJP over seat-sharing in the Lok Sabha election.

The BJP and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, had a deteriorating relationship as they were unable to come to a consensus on seat-sharing in the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Both the BJP and Dushyant Chautala's JJP have declared they will run independent campaigns in the upcoming election.

This time, the JJP had requested two Lok Sabha seats, but the BJP would only concede one. The BJP has set a goal of gaining 370 seats nationwide on its own, NDTV reported.

There is talk that Khattar may retake the position of Chief Minister and lead a government that is supported by independent MLAs. As the BJP looks to account for the representation of various castes or communities ahead of the Lok Sabha election, this government may have two Deputy Chief Ministers from two different communities. The party took similar actions after winning the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh in November of last year.
