Hanuman Jayanti: extremists force Muslims to chant Jai Shri Ram

Mangaluru: Right-wing extremists in Karnataka’s Srirangapatna stopped Muslim youths travelling on a bike and forced them to chant Jai Shri Ram. The assailants were members of a 'Sankirthana Yatra’ organised as part of the Hanuman Jayanti, Madhyamam reported.

Video of the incident that took place on Sunday went viral on social media. As a result, the police have registered a case against about ten Sangh Parivar activists.

The incident took place near Sundahalli on the Bengaluru-Mysore highway in Mandya taluk, where three Muslim youths were riding a bike near the underpass service road on the highway. The victims were surrounded by Sangh Parivar workers who were attending the Sankirthana Yatra. They then forced them to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’, which is also shown in the viral video.

There was a huge public outcry against the incident. With this, the Mandya Rural Police suo motu registered a case against the accused under BNS 189 (2), 126 (2), 196, 352 and RV 190.

It was only around a week ago that a Hindu man assaulted three minor Muslims and forced them to say “Jai Shri Ram” in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam. The children, ages 7, 10 and 12, are in trauma and not able to talk about the incident, Maktoob Media reported.

The assaulted children are residents of the Ashok Nagar Sabzi Pharosh area here. A video of the gruesome incident appeared on social media, giving rise to widespread dissent and condemnation.

The video shows a man repeatedly slapping the three children with a slipper and forcing them to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. He continued his inhuman act even after the children complied with his demands. The man started by scolding the children for saying “Allah”, and he slapped one of them on the face. He continued his act even after they chanted what he demanded and kept laughing. Another person filmed the act.
