A court in Goa on Thursday dismissed the bail applications of Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, the owners of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub where 25 people were killed in a devastating fire last December.
The fire broke out on December 6, 2025, at the nightclub located in Arpora village in North Goa while it was hosting a dance party. Around 50 people were injured in the incident, which triggered widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
The sessions court in Mapusa town rejected the bail pleas filed by the Luthra brothers, who have been in judicial custody since their deportation from Thailand. Following the fire, the two had fled the country but were deported back to India on December 17. They are currently lodged at the Colvale central jail in North Goa.
Advocate Vishnu Joshi, who represents the families of the victims, welcomed the court’s decision and described it as a significant moment in the pursuit of justice. He said the rejection of bail showed that the court had refused to grant any relief to the accused.
Counsel for the Luthra brothers, Advocate Parag Rao, stated that the court had rejected the bail applications and that a detailed order was pending. He added that the legal team was examining future options, including the possibility of approaching the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court for bail.
