Former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress leader Amarinder Singh met with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval today. The meeting comes a day after his talk with Union Minister Amit Shah.
He is suspected of having discussed Punjab border security and political turmoil in the state with Doval. Amarinder Singh had tweeted, after his meeting with Amit Shah, that they discussed new Farm Laws and farmers' protests.
On Tuesday, the 79-year-old had denied that he had any plans to meet with BJP leaders. He said that he only wanted to vacate the Kapurthala House for new Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Furthermore, his team claimed that the meeting with the union minister last evening was a "courtesy visit". Singh has taken no decision to join the BJP, they added.
Many are speculating that Singh will exit from the Congress party. He has not sought a meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi despite being in Delhi since Tuesday. Sources told NDTV that Senior Congress leaders Ambika Soni and Kamal Nath are trying to win over Singh.
When stepping down from his position of Chief Minister of Punjab, he had stated that the party had humiliated him more than once, and he was being forced to resign.
