Five caregivers booked for putting toddlers in washing machine at Bengaluru IT campus day-care

Bengaluru police have registered a criminal case against five caregivers at the on-campus day-care of Capgemini Technology Services India Limited following allegations that toddlers were subjected to physical assault, intimidation and cruelty.

The FIR was registered on June 29 at the HAL police station based on a complaint filed by Tilakesh Kumar, a legal-cum-probation officer with the district child protection unit.

The accused have been identified as Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu, all employed at the day-care facility inside Capgemini's Brookfield campus.

According to the complaint, videos received through WhatsApp showed children crying while being subjected to abuse. The complaint alleged that caregivers locked crying toddlers inside washing machines to frighten them, forced them into narrow water-filled pipes, confined them in bathroom spaces, and physically intimidated them.

Police said the children belonged to Capgemini employees who left them at the creche while at work.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield Division) Saidulu Adavath said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway.

"We have initiated an investigation. Notices will be served to the individuals responsible, and they will be summoned for interrogation," he said.

Capgemini said it was cooperating with the authorities and had temporarily closed the Bengaluru on-campus day-care facility as a precaution.

"Capgemini's foremost priority is the health, safety, and well-being of its employees and their families. We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and assisting them in their efforts to establish the facts. As a precautionary measure, we are temporarily closing the Bengaluru on-campus day-care facility," the company said in a statement.
