Navi Mumbai: Police informed that the dead body of a 19-year-old woman was found in a lake here in Maharashtra, and they suspect that she was murdered by her boyfriend, who committed suicide later, NDTV reported.
It was some fishermen who noticed the body in the lake near a school next to Belapore. They found the body around 4:30 pm on Wednesday and alerted the police.
Later, police arrived at the scene and recovered the body belonging to the woman, who was identified as Bhavika More. She was a student of a college in Nerul, police said.
Primary information about her further suggested that she was in a relationship with a 22-year-old man, identified as Swastik Patil. CCTV footage found that both had gone to the lake around 4 pm but did not return.
According to the police's assumption from available evidence, the couple must have had a quarrel, which led to the man strangling the woman to death and dumping her body in the lake. Later, he committed suicide. Police are trying to trace the man as well.
The exact cause of the woman's death is yet to be determined, which will happen only once the autopsy report comes. For the time being, police registered a case of accidental death.
