First case of white fungus reported in Madhya Pradesh

After recovering from COVID-19, a 55-year-old man in Jabalpur has been diagnosed with White Fungus or Aspergillus Flavus. Though the state has confirmed about 650 cases of black fungus so far, this is the first case of white fungus to be reported in the state.

The man was operated on May 17 following headache and eye pain. White fungus infection was detected in his nose in a test conducted on Friday, Dr Kavita Sachdeva of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Medical College said.

White fungus is treatable with medicines and does not need injections like black fungus. Though both affect people with heightened sugar levels, the white fungus is not as rare or as deadly as the black fungus, Sachdeva informed.
