FB too calls Rahul Gandhi's photo with Dalit family violation, removes it

New Delhi: A post shared by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in which he was seen with the family of the nine-year-old Dalit rape victim has been removed by Facebook on the grounds of policy violation.

Gandhi had visited the family of the girl who was allegedly raped, killed, and forcibly cremated at a crematorium in New Delhi.

Facebook had written to the Congress leader asking him to take down the post. The social media platform took action a week after receiving summons from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The company also informed Rahul Gandhi that his post has been taken down and informed him of the reasons, reported the Indian Express.

Facebook, in its email, said that the post is "unlawful under Section 74 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015; Section 23 of the POCSO, 2012; and Section 288A of the Indian Penal Code".

The NCPCR had earlier written to Facebook asking its representatives to appear in person as there was no response to the notice. The NCPCR exempted Facebook from the summons after submitting a copy of the email to Rahul Gandhi.

Earlier, Twitter also had deleted the tweet with the same photo and locked Gandhi's account temporarily for the same reason.
