Farmers will take rights from govt: Rahul

New Delhi : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday called protesting farmers as " satyagrahis" who according to him would take their rights from the government.

Calling out the government on the on-going agitation, Rahul Gandhi tweeted in Hindi:

"The country is facing a tragedy like Champaran; then, the British were Company Bahadur, and now the friends of PM are Company Bahadur,"

"But the agitating farmers are 'satyagrahis'; they will take their rights," he added.

Satyagraha was a policy of passive political resistance, especially advocated by Mahatma Gandhi against the British rule in India.

Champaran satyagraha in 1917 saw Mahatma Gandhi leading the farmers' agitation against forced indigo farming.
