New Delhi: Internet services are temporarily snapped in 18 districts of Haryana citing circulation of fake news in social media regarding ongoing farmers' protest. Only four districts out of 22 are spared from the ban.
Home department of Haryana Government on Friday issued a circular to all telecom service providers of the state to suspenx the mobile internet services provided on mobile networks in the territorial jurisdiction of Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari, Fatehabad and Sirsa districts.
Internet services were earlier suspended in Sonipat, Jhajjar and Palwal districts. The ban in these three districts is extended for another 24 hours.
It is pertinent to note that internet ban is in places from where farmers' protest are drawing more people to the sites of agitation on the borders with Delhi.
Meanwhile farmers in large numbers from parts of Haryana on Friday decided to move towards Delhi borders to join the ongoing agitation against farm laws and held protests against lookout notices to peasant leaders and the Ghaziabad administration's ultimatum to vacate protest site.
Union leaders called on for restoration of internet at the borders and said that it is not democratic to deny internet to people. Leaders said that they will protest against it as well. They said that it is effort to weaken the movement.
The farmers claimed that issuing the lookout notices and asking the farmers to vacate the site will not weaken the ongoing agitation against the Centre's new farm laws.
