Ranchi: The former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren has been granted bail by the High Court in a money laundering case, NDTV reported.
Soren was arrested in January by the Enforcement Directorate alleging that he 'ran a scheme' to manipulate records to acquire land worth several crores of rupees.
It is reported that Soren has been accused of illegally acquiring 8.86 acres land in Ranchi. After he was questioned for hours, Soren resigned as Chief Minister as on January 31.
When he was informed of the arrest, Soren reportedly refused to accept the arrest memo until he quit the position.
In so doing he wanted to avoid being the first sitting Chief Minister to be arrested.
