Mumbai: The security arrangement for Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, has been upgraded from X to Y+ that comes with a 'traffic clearance vehicle'.
Fadnavis, who also holds Home portfolio, told the Indian Express that his wife had not applied for any security upgrade, adding that a "high-power committee" had given the security based on "threat perception".
Fadnavis also said that Amruta specifically told the police that she did not require a traffic clearance vehicle.
The state Intelligence Department that comes under Fadnavis' home portfolio recently upgraded Amruta's security from X to Y+ alongside arranging the traffic clearance vehicle, the report said.
Amruta Fadnavis is yet to use the newly-allotted traffic clearance vehicle even as Mumbai police's the Protection and Security Department has made routine instructions on this to traffic authorities.
She will get round the clock security of five policemen and an escort vehicle; the traffic clearance vehicle she will get is in fact similar to pilot vehicles that clear road during her travel.
Fadnavis said the entire Thackeray family received traffic clearance vehicle, and adding that people who are not even legislators receive Z or Z+ security. It is not about post but about the threat perception, he claimed.
Aditya Thackeray declined to respond to Fadnavis' reference to Thackeray family enjoying special security arrangements.
Back when Fadnavis was the leader of opposition, the governing Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) provided his wife X category cover with escort vehicle, The Indian Express reported.
