Editor's Guild biased towards 'celebrity' journalists: Patricia Mukhim resigns

In the resignation letter to the Editor's Guild, Padmashri and journalist Patricia Mukhim expressed her disappointment at what she claims is an undue bias towards celebrity journalists like Arnab Goswami. The Guild had spoken up for Goswami but maintained "complete silence" on the FIR filed against her, she alleged.

Mukhim, an editor at The Shillong Times, was booked for reportedly inciting communal disharmony over a Facebook post in which she had detailed the attack against a group of non-trials by Khasi tribal men in Assam. The Meghalaya High Court had refused to quash the FIR.

"I see this is a classic case of the Guild playing to the gallery to defend celebrity editors/anchors, whose voices matter while choosing to deliberately ignore a plea (unstated) from one of its members," the letter reads. Mukhim noted that Goswami was not even a member of the Guild and the "alacrity" shown in his case was an alarming sign of prejudice and elitism.

The Editor's Guild has not issued a comment in this matter.
