ED slaps money laundering charge on, arrests Minister Nawab Malik

Mumbai: NCP leader and a Minister in Shiv Sena led government in Maharashtra, Nawab Malik, was arrested today after the questioning by the Enforcement Directorate. The arrest is reported to have been linked to Nawab Malik's alleged money laundering in which fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his aides were involved.

Malik faced the ED's questioning for several hours, which was prompted on evidence the official had recovered from Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar during recent raids. Malik has been one of tongues critical to the BJP and its government at the Centre.

He has also been figured as one of the opposition leaders who traded words with the BJP leaders in the state. His strong statements, challenges and revelations against the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede over cruise ship raid and arrest of Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan has him a fly in the eyes of BJP leaders.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition party Shiv Sena slammed the BJP for misusing the ED and accused the BJP of venting its politically motivated ire.

The BJP has rubbished allegations of political vendetta and accused Mr Malik of buying land from gangster Dawood Ibrahim's aide. BJP MLA from Mumbai's Ghatkopar West Ram Kadam said in a video statement that this is not about a party or an individual.
