DMK to file review petition against SC upholding EWS quota

Chennai: The ruling party in Tamil Nadu, DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), has decided to file a review petition challenging the five-judge bench's of the Supreme Court's verdict upholding 10 per cent EWS (economically weaker section) in jobs and education, The Indian Express reported.

The party's general secretary and state water resources minister Durai Murugan said that the verdict is a setback to equality and social justice enshrined in the Constitution of India.

He said that the party would file the review petition in the top court to protect the rights of the 82 per cent SC/ST community and OBC sections. He added that the review petition also aims to keep the Mandal Commission reservation alive.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said on Monday that the fresh verdict on the EWS quota was a blow for "India's century-long fight for social justice", TIE quoted.

Further, the DMK ally, VCK, also announced filing a review petition against the verdict. It has been decided that a discussion will be held in an all-party meeting scheduled on November 12.
