New Delhi: The Instagram account operating under the name ‘Dimagi Naxal Party’ disappeared after rapidly gaining more than 1.6 lakh followers, only to reappear hours later, drawing fresh attention following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s use of the term during his Independence Day speech.
The account reportedly crossed two lakh followers within hours of emerging on Instagram. Its sudden disappearance after reaching the 1.6-lakh mark triggered speculation on social media, but it was restored within hours. There has been no clear explanation about whether the account was voluntarily deactivated or removed by Instagram.
The account currently has 77 posts and follows 38 users. Its content largely questions and criticises various policies and decisions of the Union government. Records also indicate that its username had been changed once. However, the identity of the people operating the account remains unknown.
The account emerged shortly after Modi used ‘Dimagi Naxal’ during his August 15 address from the Red Fort. He had argued that while armed Naxalism in the forests had been effectively countered, ideological Naxalism continued to exist and needed to be identified and isolated.
The phrase quickly became a political talking point, with Congress leader P. Chidambaram even embracing the label. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju later clarified that Modi's reference was aimed at Maoist supporters, those rejecting the Constitution and separatist elements, rather than opposition leaders.
The emergence of the ‘Dimagi Naxal Party’ account follows the social-media-driven rise of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which similarly turned a controversial political remark into a youth-oriented digital movement.
