Hathras Gang Rape: UP Police manhandled TMC MPs including women as they try to enter village

Hathras:  A group of Trinamool Congress MPs led by Derek O'Brien who were on their way to meet the family of Hathras gangrape victim were stopped on their way, by Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday.

As per reports from the location, the police intercepted the delegation about one and a half kilometers away from the residence of the victim, lathi-charged them and pushed Derek to the ground in the melee.

Among those who were prevented from proceeding included Trinamool MPs Derek O'Brien, Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Pratima Mondal and ex-MP Mamata Thakur.

"He (Derek O'Brien) was pushed to the ground, maybe he is injured too. He was attacked. How can they do it?",said Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, MP of TMC

"We're sent by Mamata Banerjee to meet family of the alleged rape victim to offer our condolences. Though we introduced ourselves we weren't allowed to meet them & were pushed by police. If they can't respect a woman lawmaker imagine the condition of commoners", reacted Pratima Mondal, Member of Parliament from TMC.

"We were going to meet her family but there were not allowing us. When we insisted, the women Police personnel pulled at our blouses and lathi-charged at our MP Pratima Mondal. She fell down. The male Police officers touched her. This is shameful" accused TMC MP Mamata Thakur

Reacting on the issue UP Minister SN Singh said that people are simply touring Hathras and the entire issue is being politicised.

"Mr Derek is one of my good friends. He is an amazing character of dramatics & has finally found a place in Hathras to exhibit his skills" said the minister on TMC members pushed by police in Hathras.

UP Police officials denied the allegations that male constables touched woman MPs
