Delhi University to name college after Swaraj, Savarkar or Vivekananda

Delhi University officials have informed that the university is considering naming its upcoming college at Fatehpur Beri after the first woman chief minister of Delhi, Sushma Swaraj. The name would be finalised by the Academic Council and the Executive Council of the university.

"A couple of other names have also been proposed along with Swaraj. The names of Swami Vivekananda and Veer Savarkar are also under consideration," an official said.

As part of the university's year, a new facilitation centre and a proposed college are going to be built at Bhatti Kalan Gaon in Fatehpur Beri. It is still under consideration if the upcoming college would be co-ed or a women's college, said DU Registrar Vikas Gupta. As it's a far-flung area, there might be fewer women takers, an official remarked.

"The name of the college will be finalised by the Academic Council and Executive Council of the university. The name of former Chief Minister is also under consideration," he said.

The foundation stone was scheduled to be laid by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday. However, the event has been postponed. The next date will be notified separately, the university informed.

"The facilitation centre will enable students of DU, living in and around Bhatti Kalan, to complete various processes, including admission, examination with ease without having to travel long distance," Gupta said. There are also plans to establish such centres at other places, officials informed.
