The Delhi Police Special Cell on Monday evening raided Twitter's Delhi offices in Lado Sarai and Gurgaon in connection with the alleged Congress toolkit. The Congress toolkit, shared by BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra on May 21, alleging that the Congress was trying to tarnish the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was earlier flagged by Twitter as 'manipulated media'.
However, the police claim the visits to be 'routine'. "This was necessitated as it was to ascertain who the right person was to serve the notice, as replies by Twitter India MD had been very ambiguous, said Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal, as reported by TOI.
"Delhi Police is enquiring into a complaint in which clarification is sought from the Twitter regarding the classification of a tweet by Sambit Patra as 'manipulative'. It appears that Twitter has some information which is not known to us on the basis of which they have classified it as such. This information is relevant to the enquiry. Special Cell which is conducting the enquiry wants to find out the truth. Twitter which has claimed to know the underlying truth should clarify," a statement by the Delhi Police said. The police had earlier issued notices to Twitter demanding an explanation for the manipulated media tag.
Congress had filed complaints last week claiming the letterhead of the document to be doctored. It further called for the suspension of the Twitter accounts of BJP leaders for allegedly "spreading misinformation and unrest in society".
