Delhi Police rescue kidnapped 3-year-old after a month

New Delhi: The Delhi Police rescued a three-year-old boy who was kidnapped a month ago. The boy went missing from northwest Delhi's Timarpur on May 22. The boy's father filed a complaint soon after.

The police arrested five people - Raj Rani (70), her daughter Anuj Rani (35), Seema (35), Sunita (29), and Sarvesh (49) - and charged them with kidnapping.

A senior police official said that the police received information that the child was in the Jahangirpuri area on Tuesday. A mother-daughter duo was trying to sell the boy. The police found the child with aj Rani and her daughter Anuj Rani in a raid. The names of their associates were revealed during the interrogation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Anto Alphonse said that the accused revealed the motive behind kidnapping was money shortage during the pandemic. The gang had planned to kidnap children to make money.

The police started suspecting Sunita during the investigation and questioned her and everyone who has been in touch with her. She resides in the same neighbourhood as the boy. Sunita was in charge of kidnapping the boy. Her associate, auto-rickshaw driver Sarvesh had assured that selling the boy would fetch Rs 70,000.

The gang was looking for a suitable buyer when they were arrested.
