As 2024 winds down, Swiggy Instamart’s year-end report sheds light on fascinating ordering trends across India.
Covering data from January 1 to December 1, 2024, the report highlights consumer preferences and quirky insights from the quick-commerce platform.
Among the standout revelations, Delhi led the charge in ordering instant noodles, racking up a staggering Rs 60 crore in purchases. The capital city also topped the charts for ordering potato chips, showcasing its penchant for snacking.
Mumbai emerged as the top city for onion orders, followed closely by Hyderabad and Delhi. On December 1 alone, Indians ordered an impressive 4,500 kilos of onions between 7 and 8 PM. In another unusual record, Mumbai users spent over Rs 8 lakh on tonic water in a single day.
Swiggy Instamart identified milk, curd, dosa batter, chips, and soft drinks as the five most popular items ordered pan-India in 2024. Statistically, one in every 15 orders included milk, while one in five featured fruits or vegetables.
Festive seasons also saw a surge in unique orders. During Raksha Bandhan, Swiggy Instamart facilitated 2,85,000 deliveries through its “order for others” feature, with an astounding 273 chocolates ordered every minute. On Dhanteras, users spent over Rs 45 lakh on brooms, while close to 8,00,000 rakhis were delivered nationwide during the festival.
The platform achieved its fastest delivery of the year in just 89 seconds. Covering a distance of 180 meters, the order included nendran bananas and red amaranth, setting a benchmark for ultra-quick commerce.
Swiggy Instamart’s report also highlighted non-food-related trends, pointing at India’s growing reliance on online delivery platforms for both everyday essentials and festive items.
