Delhi Metro sets new daily ridership record with 7.1 million journeys

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro achieved a historic milestone on February 13, recording its highest-ever daily passenger journeys at 71.09 lakh.

This remarkable feat occurred on a day marked by significant traffic congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to heavy security measures for the farmers' march towards the national capital.

The urban transportation authority shared this data in a post on 'X' on Wednesday, highlighting that it surpassed the previous milestone reached in September of the previous year.

"Delhi Metro broke its highest passenger journeys record set in September 2023 by registering an unmatched 71.09 lakh passenger ridership on Tuesday (February 13, 2024), the highest ever daily passenger ridership," announced the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in its post.

The daily passenger journey count for Delhi Metro had previously reached 71.03 lakh on September 4 and 69.94 lakh on August 29, 2023. Journey or line utilisation is determined by the number of corridors passengers utilise to reach their destinations.

The DMRC also shared a poster celebrating this achievement, proclaiming, "Delhi Metro has crossed another milestone of success."

On Tuesday, Delhi Metro implemented crowd control measures at nine stations, temporarily closing some gates for several hours in anticipation of the farmers' march towards Delhi. Commuters were directed to enter or exit through alternative gates during this period.
