In response to the recent tragedy where three UPSC aspirants lost their lives due to flooding in a coaching center, the Delhi government has announced plans to introduce a new law to regulate coaching centers in the city.
AAP minister Atishi revealed that a committee, including officials and students, will be formed to develop these regulations.
Atishi mentioned that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has already taken action against coaching centers operating illegally. Basements of 30 centers in areas like Rajinder Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Preet Vihar have been sealed, and notices have been issued to 200 more centers.
The government intends to hold individuals accountable for illegal building use that contributed to the disaster in Old Rajinder Nagar.
The victims of the incident, identified as Tania Soni from Telangana, Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, and Navin Delvin from Kerala, were trapped in the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle when a drain exploded, causing flooding.
This incident has sparked significant protests from students and locals, who are demanding accountability from both the coaching center and authorities for the negligence that led to the loss of life. The Delhi government is moving swiftly to prevent such tragedies in the future by ensuring proper regulation and oversight of coaching centers.
