Delhi fire: Kejriwal announces Rs 10L for the deceased

New Delhi: As a relief to those killed in a fire in a Delhi paint factory, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for their families on Friday. Those with major injuries will be given Rs 2 lakhs each. In the fire that broke in Alipur on Thursday evening, 11 people died, PTI reported.

Kejriwal visited the site to take stock of the situation following the unfortunate incident.

The CM, also the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), told reporters, "We have full sympathy for the families of the killed. We will provide a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh each for the family of the killed. Two people have sustained minor injuries, and they will be awarded a compensation of ₹ 20,000 each, and those with major injuries will be awarded a compensation of ₹ 2 lakh each."

He promised that those in the nearby houses who were affected by the fire would get compensation in accordance with the administration's policy.

According to him, there were allegations that the fire fenders' response to the spot was delayed. He said, "We will fully assess the damage caused to shops and houses that were burnt. I just told the DM and the loss incurred will be compensated as per the government's policy." He added, "I will order an inquiry into it, and whoever is guilty of this will not be spared. How this factory was running in a residential area will also be investigated. Action will also be taken soon."

The fire in Alipur on Thursday followed an explosion inside the paint factory situated in Delhi's outer. The incident killed 11 people and injured four. The latter are still in hospital.
