Delhi court grants bail to AAP minister Atishi in defamation case

A Delhi court granted bail to AAP minister Atishi on Tuesday in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

The case revolves around allegations made by Atishi that AAP leaders were approached by the BJP with cash offers to join their party.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tanya Bamniyal granted bail to Atishi on a bond of ₹20,000 and one surety of the same amount. Atishi appeared before the court following a summons issued in relation to the case.

The defamation suit was initiated by Delhi BJP leader Kapoor, who claimed that Atishi's accusations against the BJP were baseless. He stated that no evidence was provided by the AAP leaders to support their claims.

The court will continue proceedings on August 8, focusing on the scrutiny of documents and arguments regarding the framing of charges.

Previously, on May 28, the judge declined to summon Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the complaint but did summon Atishi. Kapoor maintains that the allegations made by AAP leaders were unfounded and lacked any supporting material.
