New Delhi: Chaitanyananda Saraswati, the spiritual guru accused of sexually harassing several women, is now in police custody after he was arrested on Sunday, NDTV reported.
The 62-year-old who was on the run after facing allegations of harassing at least 17 women at a Delhi-based management institute, changed 15 hotels dodging police in 50 days.
Police reportedly said that the spiritual guru’s aides picked for him only cheat hotels with no CCTV cameras.
It is reported citing police that Chaitanyanand was not responding to the questions adding that allegations were baseless.
He told the police that he was ‘feeling anxious’ and forgotten the passwords to his phones and digital devices with police sending an iPad to forensic lab.
Chaitanyananda's alleged harassment of women students came to light after an alumnus had written to the management of Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management-Research in Delhi's Vasant Kunj.
The former student accused Chaitanyananda of harassing students at the institute.
The day after this letter on July 31, the institute received an email from a Group Captain rank officer in the Directorate of Education in the Air Force raising complaints by several students.
These students alleged that Chaitanyananda had threatened them alongside sending offensive messages.
As many of the students at the institute were from families of Air Force personnel, Air Force directorate stepped in seeking action.
Alongside filing a complaint against Chaitanyananda, the institute revoked Chaitanyananda's power of attorney and set up a new governing council of 11 members.
The institute had previously lodged a complaint against Chaitanyananda, accusing him of fraud, forgery, cheating, and criminal breach of trust.
