Bhadohi: On February 9, a Dalit youth in his early 20s lost vision in his left eye after a man allegedly stabbed him with a motorcycle key during a caste-laced argument over open defecation near a canal, police said.
The attack occurred Friday afternoon in Aurai when victim Rahul went to defecate by the canal. Accused Shankar Bind objected, abused him with caste slurs, and assaulted him. As Rahul fled, Bind pierced the key into his eye and threatened to kill him, said Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik.
Rahul collapsed in agony; locals gathered as Bind escaped. Police rushed him to a community health centre, then the district hospital. Doctors referred him to BHU Trauma Centre in Varanasi due to the severe injury and vision loss.
A case is registered based on Rahul's father Ram Dhani's complaint against Bind under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Investigation continues, with legal action underway.
