Hyderabad: The first meeting of the newly constituted Congress Working Committee is scheduled to begin here on Saturday. The meeting will be presided over by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and all CWC members as well as permanent and special invitees will be present, including former Congress Presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing a press conference here today, Congress general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal along with the general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Revanth Reddy said that the CWC meeting will be followed by an ‘extended’ CWC meeting on Sunday, which will be attended by all the PCC presidents and CLP leader.
Four party Chief Ministers will also attend the CWC meeting.
Venugopal said that the CWC meetings will be followed by a huge rally which will set the tone for change in Telangana. He said that the CWC meetings have been purposefully scheduled to be held in Hyderabad in view of the assembly elections to be held later this year.
The Congress general secretary recalled that it was Sonia Gandhi who fulfilled the promise of a separate Telangana state.
He added that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) turned Telangana into a corrupt state and alleged that Telangana was the most corrupt state in the country. He claimed that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was causing suffering for the people at the Centre, KCR was causing suffering for the people of Telangana.
He asserted that the Congress will win not only in Telangana, but in all the five states which are going to polls in the coming months.
He said that Congress leaders will reach out to people in all the 115 assembly segments. As part of this, CWC members, PCC presidents, CLP leaders and others will go to their respective assembly segments and give 6 guarantees to the people of Telangana, besides presenting the chargesheet against the KCR government.
Venugopal said that all these guarantees would be fulfilled within one month, the way the Congress government fulfilled similar guarantees in Karnataka.
Jairam Ramesh pointed out that the CWC meetings were always held in Delhi and it was for the first time that it was being held for three days outside Delhi.
Ramesh also remarked that PM Modi and Chief Minister KCR are two sides of the same coin.
He said that Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra had covered 8 districts in the state adding that in Karnataka the Yatra had a massive impact with Congress winning a landslide victory. He said that the party had fulfilled its promises in Karnataka and that every woman in every family there was getting Rs 2,000 directly in their bank accounts.
In an apparent reference to the widespread corruption that existed in the state under KCR's administration, he quoted the well-known local poet Gaddar when he remarked about Telangana that there were 1 cr, 2 cr, 3 cr, and KCR.
