CRPF trooper killed, 3 injured in militant ambush in Manipur

Imphal: A CRPF jawan was killed, and three security personnel, including a CRPF jawan and two Manipur police officers, were injured when suspected militants ambushed a joint patrol in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Sunday, according to police.

The attack occurred in Morbung village, where militants fired from a hilltop at the patrol party. The CRPF troopers were inside a patrol SUV, which was later found riddled with bullet holes and a shattered windshield.

The security personnel retaliated, forcing the militants to retreat into the forest. A combing operation is underway, and additional forces have been deployed to the area. The injured personnel were evacuated and are receiving treatment at a government hospital.

This incident marks the second militant attack on security forces in Manipur in five weeks. On June 10, militants attacked the advance security convoy of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in Kangpokpi district, injuring a security personnel.

The Jiribam district has seen recent violence, including the June 6 killing of farmer Soibam Saratkumar Singh, which led to widespread unrest and displacement of tribal and Meitei community members.
