Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, while an unidentified body was discovered in Kulgam district on Monday.
The head constable, identified as Kharat Prakash of G Coy 116 Battalion, was on duty at the Anantnag district jail when he was found unconscious late Sunday evening. He was promptly taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of his death.
In a separate incident, an unidentified body was found near Tukutachloo village in Kulgam district on Monday. Locals first spotted the body and informed the police, who later arrived at the scene and took it into custody. The identity of the deceased remains unknown.
Meanwhile, the head of the cardiology department at the Government Medical College in Srinagar issued an advisory based on international research regarding sudden deaths during extreme winter conditions. The advisory highlighted that elderly individuals with conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and heart issues must take precautions to safeguard their health.
Recent studies have shown that cold temperatures can cause blood vessels to constrict, raising blood pressure and putting extra strain on the heart. This can exacerbate respiratory infections and further affect cardiovascular health. The advisory also noted that globally, 10 million people experience disabilities and 500,000 deaths occur annually due to low temperatures. In Kashmir, where 30% of adults suffer from hypertension, these health risks are particularly concerning, as hypertension is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes.
