Guna: Two Muslim minors were booked in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna after a video showed them playfully placing skullcaps on neighbourhood cows and sharing it online on February 19.
According to reports, the clip was captioned “fun after sehri,” which triggered objections from local cow vigilante groups. They accused the boys of offending religious sentiments and approached the Cantonment Police Station seeking action against them.
Local media quoted the complainant, Monu, as saying that he received the video on a WhatsApp group and believed it was uploaded with the intent to hurt Hindu sentiments. He alleged that putting an Islamic skullcap on a cow, which he described as sacred in Hindu belief, amounted to an insult to religious faith and demanded legal action, Siasat Daily reported.
After the matter came to light, the mother of one of the boys reportedly went to the police station and appealed to the vigilantes to forgive her son. She was quoted as saying the children had acted in error and were willing to apologise if anyone had been hurt. She also pleaded that a police case against the minors could jeopardise their academic year.
Despite these appeals, the vigilante group proceeded to file a first information report against the two boys.
