India recorded 31,382 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,35,94,803, while the active cases declined to 3,00,162, the lowest in 188 days, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.
The number of deaths climbed to 4,46,368 with 318 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The top five states which have registered maximum Covid-19 cases are Kerala with 19,682 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 3,320 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,745 cases, Mizoram with 1,257 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 1,171 cases.
86.6 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 62.72 per cent of the new cases.
318 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 4,46,368.
The maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (152), followed by Maharashtra with 61 daily deaths.
India has administered a total of 72,20,642 doses in the last 24 hours, which pushed the total tally of doses administered to 84,15,18,026.
A total of 15,65,696 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
On the vaccine front, nearly 66 per cent of India's adult population has been given at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 23 per cent has received both the jabs. Around 63 per cent doses have been administered in rural areas while around 35 per cent has been administered in urban areas.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
