New Delhi: India has recorded more than 800 Covid-19 positive cases in 24 hours, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry. The count is the highest in more than four months.
The country registered 841 new cases to push the active caseload to 5,389, the ministry data suggested, reports NDTV.
NDTV continues that the country's cumulative caseload reached 4,46,94,349 as per the fresh update on 8 am Saturday. Jharkhand and Maharashtra registered one death each, while Kerala reconciled two.
The ministry data suggested that Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat reported the highest number of infections. The daily average of new infections is up six times in a month. When it was 112 a month ago, precisely on February 18, it reached 626 on March 18.
Active cases are now 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national recovery rate has reached 98.80 per cent. The cumulative count of patients who recovered from the illness reached 4,41,58,161, while the case fatality rate stayed at 1.19 per cent.
Till March 18, 220.64 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered under the national vaccination drive.
After an uptick detected in the number of infections, the Union government has written to six states advising them to guard up. The Union Health Secretary on Wednesday wrote to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka to restart testing, treating, tracking and vaccination. The ministry stated that there could be possible localised spread, and there is a need to follow a risk assessment-based approach to contain the infection. This should be done without losing the gains made so far in the battle against the virus.
