New Delhi: The Delhi High Court ruled today after hearing Amitabh Bachchan's appeal that his image, voice, or name may not be used without his consent.
In addition, the court ordered telecom service providers and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to remove flagged information.
"It cannot seriously be disputed that the plaintiff is a well-known personality and is also represented in various advertisements," Justice Navin Chawla said, stating that the actor "is aggrieved" by others utilising his popularity to market their products and services without his consent.
Amitabh Bachchan, 80, also referred to as "Big B," filed a plea with the court asking for protection for his "name, image, voice, and personality attributes" "against the world at large."
"I am just giving a flavour of what is going on. Someone is making t-shirts and started putting his face on them. Someone is selling his poster. Someone has gone and registered a domain name, amitabhbachchan.com. This is why we have come," senior Advocate Harish Salve, who appeared for Mr Bachchan, had argued.
The megastar has also requested a restraining order against a number of companies, including book publishers, T-shirt sellers, and others.
