New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday granted AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan protection from arrest until February 24 in connection with an alleged attack on a police team in Jamia Nagar on February 10.
Special Judge Jitendra Singh directed Khan to cooperate with the investigation and appear whenever summoned by the investigating officer. The court also instructed the police to present all relevant documents and any available CCTV footage related to the incident during the next hearing on February 24.
Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Khan, accusing him of leading a mob that attacked a police team and facilitated the escape of a proclaimed offender involved in an attempt-to-murder case. The incident reportedly occurred when a Crime Branch team attempted to arrest Shabaz Khan, a suspect in another case.
The case has sparked political tensions, with the AAP leader denying any wrongdoing, while the police maintain that Khan played a key role in obstructing law enforcement. The court will review the evidence before deciding on the next course of action.
