New Delhi: The Congress is mulling over initiating a privilege motion against Prime Minister Modi for sharing BJP MP Anuragh Thakur’s speech on social media, The Indian Express reported.
There was a heated argument on Tuesday between the Opposition and the treasury benches in the House after Thakur mentioned Rahul Gandhi’s caste during the discussion on the Union Budget.
Sharing Thakur's speech on X on Tuesday, PM Modi reportedly said. "This speech by my young and energetic colleague Shri Anurag Thakur is a must hear. A perfect mix of facts and humour, exposing the dirty politics of the INDI Alliance."
Anurag Thakur, a five-time MP from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, launched a personal attack against Rahul Gandhi during the debate on Budget 2024.
Opposition on Wednesday demanded an apology from Anurag Thakur for his comments on Rahul Gandhi, which led to noisy scenes just as the Opposition continued their call for caste census.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said there was nothing wrong in asking the caste of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as he tries to "divide the country" on caste lines, PTI reported.
The parliamentary affairs minister came down on the congress saying Congress leaders went on asking people's caste day in and day out.
Accusing the Congress of focusing incessantly on caste issues, he called for all members to adhere to the rules and regulations of the House.
Alongside, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday claimed that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has ‘unimpeachable credentials’ adding that the outfit has a constitutional right to contribute to the nation’s development.
Dhankhar was responding to a comment made by Samajwadi Party leader Ramji Lal Suman about the NTA head being an RSS member.
Meanwhile, the Congress Parliamentary Party observed a moment of silence in honour of the victims of the deadly landslides in Wayanad and the Delhi coaching centre flood.
