New Delhi: Congress MP Manickam Tagore slammed the RSS on Thursday, alleging that it aims to "hijack" India's education system.
Tagore's criticism of the RSS is part of a broader discussion he had with IANS, covering several pressing topics, including the National Education Policy (NEP), the delimitation issue, and the Holi and Ramzan dispute.
In response to Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin's concerns, Manickam Tagore said the Hindi imposition through NEP is sensitive and needs consultation.
"Education policy should not go into the hands of RSS. RSS wants to capture the education and carry the politics of hatred in society. If anything goes into the hands of RSS, it will divide society. We need an education policy formulated after consultation with all parties," said the Congress MP.
The Congress party is taking a thoughtful approach to the delimitation issue, which has been a point of contention for its ally, the DMK, in Tamil Nadu.
According to Manickam Tagore, the party's stance will be informed by discussions between Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and the chief ministers of opposition-ruled states.
The Congress leader stressed that the delimitation exercise should be conducted after taking views from all, unlike in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam.
People fear that the proposed delimitation exercise may be conducted as it happened in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, he claimed.
He suggested the need for controlled population growth and equitable representation in the delimitation exercise. He advocated for a new formula, devised in consultation with the opposition, to avoid politicising the issue.
On Holi and Ramzan's dispute, he said we all know RSS wants to "divide" society.
Stepping up the attack on RSS, Tagore said, "What the Britishers did (dividing the society), the RSS is carrying it forward.
