Senior Congress leader Cherian Philip was seen attempting to hug MLA Bindu Krishna during a public party event. She immediately pushed him away and continued walking forward, while maintaining a visible distance from him afterwards.
A video from the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram has sparked criticism online after it went viral.
The footage, widely circulated on social media, shows Bindu Krishna arriving at the venue for a legislative party meeting and greeting people with folded hands. As she moved through the entrance area, Cherian Philip appeared to approach her and attempt to hug her in front of party leaders, journalists, and camera crews.
The incident triggered strong reactions online, with many users calling the behaviour inappropriate and pointing to the MLA’s immediate reaction as a clear sign of discomfort. Several social media users said women politicians should not be subjected to unwanted physical gestures in professional or public spaces.
The video has led to renewed discussion around consent, personal boundaries, and conduct within political circles, especially during public events attended by media and party workers.
Neither Cherian Philip nor Bindu Krishna has publicly commented on the incident so far.
