New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has announced the formation of the party's Central Election Committee, consisting of 16 members, including himself, and former party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
This development precedes crucial assembly elections in states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
The Central Election Committee is responsible for discussing and finalising the list of candidates for parliamentary and state elections, including bypolls. Other notable members of the committee include Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, K C Venugopal, AICC general secretary (organisation), as well as veteran party leaders Ambika Soni and Madhusudan Mistry.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo, former Union minister Salman Khurshid, Lok Sabha MP from Telangana Uttam Kumar Reddy, Karnataka minister K J George, and others are also part of this crucial panel. The committee also includes former Uttarakhand Congress chief Pritam Singh, Bihar MP Mohammed Jawed, Rajya Sabha MP Amee Yajnik, former MP P L Punia, and Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Omkar Markam.
