New Delhi: After the rupee plunged to valuing 80 against the US dollar, Modi administration is facing severe criticism from the Opposition, the Congress.
In a series of tweets by Congress leaders called out the government for failing to check the currency fall.
Now the Congress is getting back at the BJP for attacking the Congress-led UPA government when rupee plunged back then.
Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter saying "Rupee at 40 : 'Refreshing'. At 50 : 'India in crisis'. At 60 : ICU. At 70 : Atmanirbhar. At 80: Amritkaal."
Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala said the government is losing all credibility, adding the Rupee has crossed the age of Margdarshak Mandal who are a group of mentors made up by BJP veterans.
Former minister during UPA administration P Chidambaram said that his government in 2013 raised the valued of rupees from 69 to 58 against the US dollar in four months.
Rahul Gandhi on Friday again tweeted to say that the country is in the throes of despair. He also questioned what he said Prime Minister Modi's silence just as the rupee continues to fall.
Meanwhile, the BJP government has underplayed the devaluation of the currency against the dollar and blamed macroeconomic factors for the rupee's downward slide, India Today reported.
When rupees plunged to79.1187 against USD, Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government was constantly in touch with the RBI on the exchange rate.
