The Patna High Court on Wednesday ordered the Congress party to take down an AI-generated video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his late mother, Heeraben Modi, from all social media platforms.
The video, reportedly shared on September 10 through the official X account of the Bihar unit of the Indian National Congress, became the subject of a Public Interest Litigation filed by Vivekanand Singh on September 15.
A Bench led by Acting Chief Justice P. B. Bajanthri and Justice Alok Kumar Sinha issued the interim directive and also sent notices to the Union and Bihar governments, the Election Commission of India, the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, TNIE reported.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Delhi Election Cell convenor Sanket Gupta lodged a complaint at North Avenue Police Station, alleging that the clip tarnished the Prime Minister’s image and amounted to a serious breach of law, morality, and women’s dignity.
The video depicted Modi in a dream sequence where his late mother appears and criticises his political choices in the run-up to elections in Bihar.
